Vanilla Bean Vanilla Bean: Pyramid: Largest: 264 lbs (120 kg). Esperanza Castaño Lopez, Adriana Aparicio Gaya, Sergio Nicolas Corona Juarez, Juan Carlos Castaño Lopez, and Ildelfonso Cabañas Ruiz. The vanilla bean pyramid has a 4 sided base of 6 ft. (2 m) each side, stands 7 ft (2.3 m) tall, has 7 levels, contains approximately 33,000 vanilla beans that would stretch over 3.6 miles (5.8 km) if laid out in a straight line. The vanilla bean pyramid was established on 25, May, 2008 in the City of Papantla, Veracruz, Mexico. The five artisans worked a total of nine days to complete the project by tying and weaving the vanilla beans one at a time. The project was witnessed and supervised by Prof. Francisco Herrera Jimenez, Municipal President of Papantla, Prof. Guadalupe Meza de Herrera, President of DIF, and Lic. Ivan Hillman Chapoy, Secretary of Tourism and Culture of the State of Veracruz. Upon completion the pyramid was unveiled by Lic. Fidel Herrera Beltran, Gov. of the State of Veracruz on May 25, 2008.
